Crescent Lunge

Anjaneyasana (Variation)

Description:

A strong and expansive pose that builds heat, strength, and balance. Crescent Lunge opens the hips, strengthens the legs, and cultivates focused energy and stability.

Alignment Cues:

  • Front Foot and Leg:
    • Front foot rooted firmly, knee stacked directly above the ankle
    • Shin vertical and thigh parallel to the mat if possible
  • Back Foot and Leg:
    • Ball of the back foot pressing into the mat, heel lifted
    • Back leg strong and straight with thigh engaged
  • Hips:
    • Square the hips forward
    • Draw the back hip forward and the front hip back
  • Torso and Spine:
    • Lift the chest and lengthen the spine upward
    • Draw the ribs in to avoid backbending
  • Arms and Hands:
    • Reach arms overhead, shoulder-width apart
    • Palms face each other, shoulders relaxed away from ears
  • Head and Neck:
    • Gaze forward or slightly up without compressing the neck
  • Breath:
    • Strong and steady to maintain balance and power
